AFTON — During a recent Cornell Raptor presentation at the Afton Central School District, State Officials visited for an eye-opening experience on animal science and wildlife conservation and were quite impressed.
New York State Senator Peter Oberacker, (R.C- 51st Senate District) and Assemblyman Joe Angelino, (R.C-Norwich), met with Agriculture Educator Cathleen Reeder and her animal science class students to observe the Ag program that puts the school on the map.
“Students learned about bird habitats, handling, what to do if you find them in the wild, and all about the program,” said Reeder. “These experiences enrich the curriculum and spark curiosity about animal science and wildlife conservation.”
She said the animals live full time at the Cornell Raptor Center due to injuries that will not allow them to be returned to the wild.
Senator Oberacker said the Cornell raptor program was an incredible experience and noted the outstanding commitment Reeder and her science class students have for local agriculture.
