NORWICH — The Perkins School of the Arts will be presenting their recital, titled "Perspective," at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 13 and at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 14 in the Norwich High School auditorium.
Over 180 dancers and 40 alumni will be performing throughout the course of the weekend, showcasing a variety of dance styles, including hip hop, jazz, tap, and many more.
"It’s just all about just looking at things in a different way and kind of a playful way of looking at stuff," Perkins School of the Arts Co-Owner Mike Perkins explained. "The kids have worked really hard and a lot of them got to do their own choreography. We had five seniors this year and they’ve been really awesome, and they really got to contribute a lot this year. So it’s been great. It’s been a fun year."
The recital will include dancers of all ages, from toddlers in the pre-dance class up to adults. Dancers in the all-inclusive "Yes! You Can Dance" class for children with special needs will also be performing in the recital. Perkins said they've been working since September to create the show.
Admission to the recital is $15 per person.
Perkins said in addition to preparing for this year's recital, Perkins School dancers also recently competed in two regional competitions in Canada and Binghamton, where they won both.
The school has also been focusing on expanding their programs.
"This year’s been really awesome because we've focused a lot on really broadening our school with our adults and our recreational programs, and just really offering a lot of different styles and really trying to have as many different classes as possible," said Perkins. "This is our largest year. So it was tough after COVID, but it’s definitely been fully replenished. So it’s been great."
