UV Pony falls to Unatego in summer opener
OTEGO – The Unadilla Valley Storm 16 and under Pony league team kicked off its 2025 summer season on Friday night at Unatego, where they fell 11-4.
Unatego took an early lead and added on before UV got on the board with a run in the fourth.
Down 10-0, UV’s Zayne Dibbell hit a one-out single to center field in the top of the fourth inning, stole second and third, before scoring the team’s first run on a steal of home.
The Storm defense kept Unatego quiet in the bottom half of the inning before both teams were held scoreless in the fifth inning. UV added three more runs on the board in the top of the sixth inning.
Reed Osborne singled to lead-off the inning and advanced to second on an error before he scored on Kasen Cox’s single to center. Cox scored on Dibbell's RBI single to right field. An error brought in Dibbell for UV’ final run of the game.
Dibbell led the Storm with two hits and four stolen bases as Osborne and Cox contributed with one hit each. Nick Crandall, Landin Eccleston, and Logan Barker reached base on walks in the loss.
Crandall, Osborne, and Teagin Eccleston all pitched two innings for the Storm while Cox went one inning. The four combined for seven hits, 11 runs (three earned), six walks, and had four strikeouts.
UV (0-1) hosts Delhi this evening at 6 p.m.
