Oxford PONY shuts out Schenevus: Blackhawks pitching combines for no-hitter

OXFORD – The Oxford Blackhawks PONY League team returned to action on a wet Thursday evening, hosting Schenevus. The Blackhawks had an early lead and secured it to win 4-0. Oxford’s pitchers also combined for a no-hitter in the victory.
The Blackhawks got on the board with a three-run bottom of the first. Joey Locke drew an led-off walk, stole second, and scored on Degan Endress’ RBI double to left field. Conner Dunagan followed with a single and both Endress and Dunagan advanced on the throw. Endress scored on a groundout RBI by Uri Tracy.
Bodie Barrows had a two-out RBI single to left field to bring in Dunagan.
Two back-to-back walks with one out in the second and a single by Locke helped load the bases. Oxford scored a run on two outs as Dunagan was hit by the pitch.
Oxford scored four runs on seven hits with Bodie Barrows leading the team with three hits and an RBI. Locke, Endress, Dunagan, and Josh Knapp all had hits as well.
Degan Endress and Josh Knapp combined for a no-hitter on the mound. Endress got the start, where he worked 5.2 innings, allowing two walks, and struck out 10 batters. Knapp struck out two batters in 1.1 innings. Schenevus runners also reached on two hit by pitches and an error, but failed to score.
Oxford (2-2) may have to wait a week for their next game, which is scheduled for Monday, July 7 at Schenevus at 6 p.m. The series is currently tied at 1-1.
