OXFORD — The Oxford Memorial Library, located at 8 Fort Hill Park in Oxford, will be kicking off the "Color Our World" Summer Reading Program with a walk-through butterfly exhibit on Wednesday, July 2 from 1 to 2 p.m.
Lindsay Sprague from the Winterberry Homestead in Ithaca will be bringing a netted tunnel stocked with butterflies and plants for visitors to walk through and enjoy the colors of native butterflies.
"She will be bringing native to New England butterflies and their host plants and setting up basically like a walk-through tunnel, like a netted-in tunnel," said Oxford Memorial Library Director Gillian Mulder. "So you can go in there and see butterflies that you would see out in nature here, and they’ll be in different life stages, so there will be some caterpillars, there will be some chrysalises, and then full-grown butterflies. So anybody who comes will be able to see all of the different stages of life for our beautiful butterflies."
"I thought it was perfect for the kickoff of our themed summer program, which is 'Color Our World,' because butterflies are one of the most beautiful, colorful things you see throughout the summer and spring," she added.
The Summer Reading Program at the Oxford Memorial Library is open to all ages. Individuals can sign up any time during the program, which began on June 30 and ends on August 8.
The Youth Summer Reading Program will use the "Read and Bead" system for children to track how much they've read over the summer.
