UV PONY splits doubleheader with Oneonta

NEW BERLIN – On Thursday, before the holiday weekend, the Unadilla Valley Storm PONY league team hosted the Oneonta Jr. Outlaws for two five-inning games. UV earned their first win of the summer season in game one and fell in game two.
Game 1: UV 8 - Oneonta 6 F/5
Down 2-0 after the first, UV flipped the game with five runs scored in the second inning, including a two-run double by Nick Crandall. Oneonta made it a one-run deficit in the bottom of the third with the Storm leading 7-6, but UV added one final run in the top of the fifth on a wild pitch.
Jake Favinger had a big day in the UV win with three singles and two RBIs. Nick Crandall had a hit and two RBIs as well. Teagin Eccleston and Landin Eccleston both collected two hits while Reed Osborne and Johnny Favinger contributed with one apiece.
Teagin Eccleston earned the win on the mound for the Storm, going four innings, allowing six runs (two earned) on six hits, three walks, and struck out two batters. Nick Crandall pitched the fifth, allowing just a hit and had two strikeouts to earn the save.
Game 2: Oneonta 13 - UV 2 F/5
Oneonta scored 10 runs in the first two innings to split the doubleheader. UV scored two runs on one hit with Jake Favinger driving in a run and the other scored on a wild pitch. Kasen Cox had the Storm’s only hit.
Nick Crandall started the second game with Reed Osborne, Johnny Favinger, and Kasen Cox all working an inning of relief in the loss.
UV (1-5) heads to Delhi this evening at 6 p.m.
