NORWICH - The Chenango County 4-H Dog Show invites the community to enjoy their free event starting at noon, Saturday, July 12, on the Chenango County Fairgrounds, located at 168 East Main Street in Norwich.

4-H Animal Science and Agriculture Educator Victoria Ryan said this year marks their second year for the dog show. She said 4-H youth and their four legged furry friends have been in training, preparing to show off talent and skills in the ring.

Ryan said there will be several different skill level classes that youth and their dogs will be in, depending on their interest.

“Every 4-H youth must participate in Grooming and Handling, which is our version of showmanship. Then there are classes such as Rally and Obedience, and also Tricks and Agility,” Ryan explained. “Every dog and child has different strengths so they can pick as many or as few of the classes they wish to participate in.”

She believes the program is important because not every family can have livestock animals to show at the fair but most people have a dog or someone in the family that has a dog which can be part of the project.
