NORWICH - Bluegrass band The Travelin' McCourys will be visiting Norwich on Thursday, July 17 to perform in the NBT Bank Free Summer Concert Series at 7 p.m. on Norwich's East Park.
The band includes the brothers Ronnie on mandolin and Rob on banjo, as well as Jason Carter on fiddle, Alan Bartram on bass, and Cody Kilby on guitar.
The brothers have been influenced by bluegrass music since childhood, learning about the genre from their father, Del McCoury. The traveled with him for years as part of the Del McCoury Band, honing their bluegrass skills and exploring how to create a pathway for bluegrass into 21st century music.
“If you put your mind, your skills, and your ability to it, I think you can make just about anything work on bluegrass instruments,” says Ronnie. “That’s a really fun part of this- figuring the new stuff out and surprising the audience.”
The NBT Bank Free Summer Concert Series is held every Tuesday at 7 p.m. in East Park throughout the summer, rain or shine. In the event of potentially dangerous weather, concerts may be moved to an alternate location. Updates will be posted on the Chenango Blues Association Facebook page and ChenangoBluesFest.org by noon on the performance date.
Upcoming performances in the series include John Brown's Body on July 24, The California Honeydrops on July 31, The Garcia Project on August 7, Sue Foley and the Brandon Santini Band on August 14, Outlaws on August 21, and George Porter, Jr. and Runnin' Pardners on August 28.
