Renowned countertenor to perform at Dunderberg Gallery on Thursday
GILBERTSVILLE - The second season of concerts at Gilbertsville’s Dunderberg Gallery will continue on July 24 with the theme of “New Compositions.” New works by John Colonna, Thad Wheeler and Marshall Coid will be premiered,
The program will kick off with “Genesis Chapter Eight” by Thad Wheeler. Featured musicians are Francesca Vanasco on cello, Evan Jagels on double bass, and Wheeler on vocals. The composition covers the period of time after 40 days of drifting on the waters, as Noah and the inhabitants of the Ark gradually discover that the waters have receded and they are now free to disembark and renew themselves upon the face of the earth.
This song is written in the form of a story-song in which the music reflects and supports the flow and momentum of the narrative. It is a visionary work in which Wheeler continues to make his contribution to discussions concerning the foundations of Western Civilization
Wheeler’s composition will be followed by the John Colonna Trio, featuring new works by Colonna on piano, Joelle Proctor on drums and Kenji Tokunaga on bass.
The final pieces will be “Pinter Song,” a setting to music of a love poem by Harold Pinter, with voice and keyboard by Coid and Barbara Siesel on flute. Coid, of Andes and New York City, has been described by The New York Times as "astonishingly versatile" for his multidisciplinary career as a counter-tenor, violinist, actor, director, stage designer, conductor, composer/arranger, writer, and educator. His award-winning music for film, dance, opera, concert and theater has received critical acclaim since the 1980s and will be featured in a Composers Concordance NYC/Live-Streamed performance this year.
All concerts will begin at 7 p.m. The remaining summer playbill includes:
August 21 – Electronic Music/New Media, with Patrick Rost (keyboard and electronics), Barbara Siesel (flute and video) and John Colonna (piano).
