Chenango IDA commits funding for regional clean energy study
NORWICH – The Chenango County IDA is putting up a small amount of money that may draw big benefits from a regional push to capitalize on clean energy development.
The agency has put up $1,500 to continue an eight-county regional study investigating ways to leverage local assets in the field of clean energy, primarily battery manufacturing and storage.
The Chenango IDA, in conjunction with seven other county IDAs in the New York’s Southern Tier region, previously invested $5,000 in a clean tech study conducted by the private commercial real estate firm, Newmark. The study sought out regional opportunities created by a growing demand for clean energy among large-scale manufacturers nationwide.
According to Newmark, the Southern Tier has “a strong reputation as a leader in this area, with major companies and globally-recognized higher education institutions conducting research in clean energy.”
