What’s Happening at the Sidney Memorial Public Library in August

SIDNEY - It is hard to believe we are into August as our Summer Reading Program, “Color Our World,” with fun-filled programs. Kids, keep reading and bringing in your reading logs for prizes.
The Walk Through Butterfly Exhibit will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on August 7. Participants will enjoy a 15-minute experience inside a tunnel, stocked full of adult butterflies that are native to the New England states and also a host of nectar plants with caterpillars, eggs, and chrysalis’ to explore and interact with.
Patrons will be up close and personal with the many species that are trying to be conserved. You may also observe from outside after visiting inside. This event will take place in the Smart Community Room and registration is required. Call the library at 607-563-1200.
Be sure to stop by the library during the month of August to see the art exhibit by Brynn Livelsberger, a rising artist from Unadilla. She will exhibit her art through mid-September. The exhibit is a collection of expressive and evocative works through exploration of physical materials. This exhibit will be in the Smart Community Room.
The Friends of the Library will hold an A La Carte Book Sale on Saturday, August 16, from 10:30 a.m. To 1 p.m. in the Library Lobby.
Two computer classes will be held in August. Word I will be held on Wednesday, August 13 from 2 to 3 p.m. Learn the basics of using Microsoft Word to create letters and documents.
Excel I will be held on Wednesday, August 27, from 2 to 3 p.m. Learn the basics of Excel and how to create charts to visually present data. Registration is required for these classes.

The Book Club will meet on Tuesday, August 12 at 11:30 a.m. to discuss the book “Finding Dorothy” by Elizabeth Letts. There are still a few copies for checkout at the circulation desk at the library. On Tuesday, September 9, the Book Club will be discussing “West With Giraffes” by Linda Rutledge.
