OXFORD — The Oxford Memorial Library, located at 8 Fort Hill Park in Oxford, will be celebrating 125 years of service to the community from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 23.

The event is free to attend, and will include free food, games, raffles, and historical information about the library.

The main attraction of the event will be the Kids' Carnival, which will include children's carnival games such as ring toss, mini golf, and a fishbowl game. There will also be games for older kids and adults, such as cornhole and can jam. Prizes will be available at the games.

The celebration is sponsored by Stewart's Shops as well as Chimera Integrations.

"Stewart’s has donated ice cream and hot dogs and drinks and all of that, so we’re very grateful. And a company out of Syracuse called Chimera Integrations has sponsored our raffle table, so we have some great baskets, they’re all bookish themed," said Oxford Memorial Library Director Gillian Mulder.

Raffle items will include gift baskets with themes such as romance novels, mystery fiction, a children's book basket, and a banned book basket with items such as a tote bag, related books, pins, and more.

"Lots of things just specifically for the book lovers in all of us," said Oxford Memorial Library Director Gillian Mulder.

Chimera Integrations has also donated a top-of-the-line Kobo Clara Color e-reader. The e-reader is made with recycled plastic, and includes features such as a glare-free color screen, easy highlighting, blue light reduction modes, and more.

To celebrate the 125-year history of the Oxford Memorial Library, Mulder said they will have a history exhibit set up in the Community Room.

"There will be an ongoing video that has different historical facts about the library and how it came to be, as well as scrapbooks that have been collected over the past 30-ish years with different events and happenings at the library," said Mulder. "I’m going to gather some of the artwork that people have done depicting the library, because we have quite a few of those, and highlighting some things about the Theodore Burr Covered Bridge Research Center, and our Merritt Russel Penmanship Collection. So a little bit of everything."

Mulder encourages community members of all ages to stop by the library on August 23 to enjoy the festivities, and to celebrate and learn about the library's history.

"It’s really just to celebrate how the community has supported the library and how much we care about our community, and the amazing feat of being here for 125 years," she said.

The Oxford Memorial Library is open from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays, and closed on Sundays. They often host a variety of activities, workshops, presentations, and events for all ages.
