MORRIS — This Saturday, Weaver’s Farm Market invites the public to visit the local community store for their Customer Appreciation Day.
The event will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Weaver’s Farm Market, located at 1272 East Side Road in Morris. Visitors can enjoy free food tastings and various demonstrations from local artisans, including a pottery maker and blacksmith.
The market hosts between 50 to 60 local vendors and about 25 of those vendors will be available with samples, ready to meet customers and share their dairy products, produce and baked goods.
“Last year we had about 2,000 visitors and we do this to show appreciation, letting our customers know how much they mean to us and offering them the opportunity to become acquainted with the people that grow their food,” said Weaver’s Farm Market Owner Daniel Weaver.
“This day is all about giving back to our customer,” said Weaver.
He said the market offers local produce and beyond. The local produce is in season, sourced locally or from areas of New York mainly, but a few others like, Four Seasons Produce, are from Lancaster in Pennsylvania.
“Our top specialties are top quality beef, pork and chicken, being a step above the average grocery store,” Weaver said. “We also have frozen meats that we offer that come from local farms.”
“We’re also make a lot of sub sandwiches and meat platters and can do small or large orders,” he added. “And we have picnic tables available for those that prefer sitting outside for lunch.”
The store offer a variety of aged cheddars, imported cheeses, goat cheese, dairy cheese and other specialty foods. Distributors provide many of their cheeses along with local vendors in the area.
“We’ve started baking in house and specialize in the organic whole grain and healthier baked goods,” said Weaver.
The market also stocks fresh and locally grown seasonal foods to include eggs, milk, syrup, jellies and jams, honey, greens and more.
“A fresh batch of Gala apples just came in from the Hudson Valley, and they are beautiful,” he said.
Weaver noted his son Matthew continues to grow nutrient-dense organic vegetables, including a variety of beefsteak, heirloom and cherry tomatoes.
“It’s all about the soil, healthy organic fertilized soil creates the nutrient-dense product,” Weaver said.
“We offer a full grocery market that enables the community to find what they might need for everyday cooking and baking for food consumption,” he said.
“Back in the day, people spent a lot of time together in groups,” said Weaver. “I enjoy seeing people come together. It’s about people meeting neighbors, seeing old school friends, just a day of getting together to enjoy camaraderie.”
Proceeds from the Customer Appreciation Day lunch stand will go toward the Morris amish church and school. They also support the local volunteer fire department and more.
The Weavers moved to New York from Holmes County Ohio, the second largest Amish community in the United States and opened their market in 2019.
“We traveled pretty much the entire state and enjoyed the lay of the land and ridges, and focused on family farms and home businesses,” said Weaver. “And with the Butternut Valley, it’s great for dairy grazing, so we moved here.”
“With the demand for local produce and crafting such as woodworking, we found we could live in New York, off of the land with home businesses,” he said. “And we appreciate the acceptance of the local community.”
“The lord has blessed us richly with many great customers and vendors. Without them, we could never do this,” said Weaver. “We are dedicated to top quality and that’s what we’re after.”
The market is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday and Friday; and closed Sunday and Monday. They only accept cash or check.
