EDMESTON - Hometown heroes with heavy equipment and other hard-working vehicles will be front and center at Pathfinder Village’s Big Rig Shindig on Saturday, September 6, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Area families and local businesses are encouraged to attend this low-cost fun and educational event.
New this year will be a focus on free recycling of personal electronics, sponsored by Directive IT of Oneonta. Additionally, Norwich-area pilot Dave Sheldon will discuss hot air balloons, flight safety, and offer demonstrations of balloon equipment.
The day highlights the role of working vehicles in our communities and provides children with a memorable way to learn about important industries from area businesses and organizations. The event also provides networking opportunities for business owners and representatives to discuss their services, careers, training in their fields, and more.
Featured vehicles will include a patrol car from Troop C of the New York State Police, a Coca-Cola Beverages Northeast delivery truck, a school bus from Edmeston Central School, first-response vehicles from the Edmeston Emergency Squad and Fire Department, a dump truck and bucket loader from the Town of Edmeston Highway Department, and several race cars and off-road utility vehicles.
“The Big Rig Shindig is a fun day to showcase vehicles that are tough and tactical, and represent our local heroes and helpers to children,” said event organizer Monica Clark, Pathfinder Village’s Project Manager. “We all know youngsters who are fascinated by big equipment- this is a great way to encourage their interests and to offer an introduction to possible careers. Our event exhibits the machines we rely on regularly and teaches children about different trades and industries.”
Food will be available on-site, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting Pathfinder Village. Admission is affordable: $5 per single person or $10 per car. All exhibitors must complete a registration form and have a Certificate of Insurance to participate. More information is available at the Pathfinder Facebook Events page or by calling the Development Office at Pathfinder Village, 607-965-8377 ext. 155, during regular business hours.
