Greene girls soccer opens up 2025 season with a win over Madison

WATERVILLE – The Greene Trojans girls’ soccer team returned to action for the 2025 season, taking on Madison in the opening round of the Brothertown Optimist Tournament in Waterville. Greene earned the 6-2 victory in the Section IV- Section III matchup.

The score was tied at 2 at halftime as Greene saw goals from Miah Cragle and Hailey Butler to get the season scoring underway. Cragle’s goal was assisted by Clare Tompkins.

Cragle scored her second goal in the first 10 minutes of the second half off an assist by Khloe Waltz. Waltz earned three assists on the afternoon and now finds herself as one of the team’s leading forwards this season while also splitting time as goalkeeper.

Caitlin Walls had two goals, including a goal with 2:07 left to play in the second half after stealing the ball in the middle of the field. Abby Roth, who is a great asset to the team all-around the field, scored a goal halfway through the second half from Waltz.

Quinlin Cavanaugh made one key save in the win over Madison in goal for the Trojans.

Greene (1-0) will face Richfield Springs in the next round of the tournament on Saturday.
