Oxford girls’ soccer hosts Marathon and Afton/Harpurville for annual tournament

OXFORD – The Oxford Blackhawks girls’ soccer team hosted its annual tournament on Friday and Saturday night at Blackhawks Stadium to open the 2025 season. It was round robin style with only three teams competing. Afton/Harpursville played Marathon on Thursday for the first round of the tournament, where they fell 6-0.

The tournament continued on Friday night, where Oxford played Marathon. The Blackhawks secured a 1-0 victory as Emily Williams scored the only goal of the game in the second half, assisted by Paige Rickard. Jenna Denz made five saves in the win.

“Being our first game, the girls were a little inconsistent at the start,” Coach Rachel Seiler said. “As soon as the second half started, the girls demonstrated resilience and determination throughout the game. Notably, they emerged with renewed energy and intensity following the halftime whistle. I am exceedingly proud of their efforts and eagerly anticipate our team’s future prospects this season.”
