Oxford boys’ soccer takes second in annual soccer tournament; Windsor wins in double overtime

OXFORD – The Oxford Blackhawks boys’ soccer team hosted its annual boys’ soccer tournament over the weekend, featuring Whitney Point, Sidney, and Windsor. The Blackhawks defeated Whitney Point in the first round, advancing to face Windsor in the championship game on Saturday night. Both the Blackhawks and Black Knights battled through two halves and nearly two overtime periods tied at 2, then Windsor scored the game-winner with 2:19 left in the second overtime to win.
Sidney defeated Whitney Point 3-1 in the consolation game.

Oxford 8 - Whitney Point 0.
Oxford’s Joey Locke and Dawson Viele both led the team with hat tricks (3 goals) while Eddie Golden and Gordon Smith also scored goals. Liam Phillipone and Paxton LaMonica both had assists. Coach Corey Endress complimented how well LaMonica controlled the midfield for the team and was a great group effort defensively to secure the shutout victory. Goalkeeper Kayden Renfrow made five saves in the win.
