Oxford girls’ soccer stays hot with win over Unatego

OXFORD – After a big win over Afton/Harpursville last Tuesday, the Oxford Blackhawks girls’ soccer team returned to action a week later as they hosted Unatego. Oxford picked up its sixth win of the season and remain behind B-G in the MAC standings, with a 4-1 victory.

Oxford was led by its leading goal scorer Kayla Knapp, who scored twice. Jayne Fleury and Paige Rickard both scored once as Knapp, Emily Williams, and Aubrey Rickard picked up assists.

“Every single player on our team delivered an outstanding performance tonight,” Coach Rachel Seiler said. “As the match progressed, we demonstrated confidence, communication, and determination. Unatego is a well-coached team with considerable talent, making this a significant victory and an excellent test for us.”

Seiler also commented on the big moment that really pumped up her team.

“A pivotal moment occurred when Jenna Denz made a spectacular save with the score at 2-1, enabling up to maintain our momentum,” Seiler said. “I am proud of the effort, energy, and teamwork displayed across the board.”

Oxford begins a four-game road trip, starting at Greene on October 2 at 6 p.m.
