Norwich girls’ swim competes at M-E Invitational; Sastri wins the 500

ENDWELL – The Norwich Purple Tornado girls’ swim team traveled to Maine-Endwell High School for the M-E Invitational on Saturday morning. Norwich saw great swims from everyone, where they returned home with a seventh place finish.

Norwich competed in all three relays as a team, where their best finish was in the 400 free relay. Alexandra Shtrauch, Olivia Palmer, Kaelyn Conant, and Mikayla Sastri took seventh with a time of 4:32.65. The same group came in eighth place in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:57.82.

In the 200 medley relay, Norwich’s Raeley Patterson, Jillian Petrie, Brynn Meek, and Olivia Palmer finished 12th with a time of 2:42.21.

Senior Mikayla Sastri had quite the day for Norwich as she won the 500 free with the fastest time of 5:34.74, which was a new personal best. Teammate Alexandra Shtrauch picked up a season best time of 6:14.76 for sixth place. Sastri also swam in the 200 free, earning a season best time of 2:07.15 for third place with Shtrauch in ninth, and Conant in 17th.

Conant also swam in the 100 breast, where the freshman finished 14th with a time of 1:30.80.

Olivia Palmer came in 21st place in the 50 free with a time of 30.53 seconds as Jillian Petrie, Brynn Meek, and Raeley Patterson all swam in the 100 free with 45 competitors. Petrie finished 23rd with a time of 1:11.23 as Meek earned a new personal best with a time of 1:17.68 in 33rd place, and Patterson in 39th (1:22.32).

The trio also all swam in the 100 back with Petrie in 17th (1:21.83), Meek picking up another new personal best with a time of 1:28.43 in 22nd, and Patterson earning a new personal best with a time of 1:34.15 for 25th.

Norwich hosts Windsor for their final home meet of the season on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
