Greene girls’ soccer holds on vs UV

NEW BERLIN — On Friday, the Greene Trojans and the Unadilla Valley Storm girls’ soccer teams squared off before sectionals in the final MAC playoff game. After a scoreless first half of play in a battle between both teams, Greene’s Caitlin Walls scored the game-winner in the second half.

UV had chances to tie the game, outshooting Greene 15-5, but Greene’s Quinlin Cavanaugh stood her ground in the goal, saving all the shots she faced. Emma Fernette had the most chances with four shots on goal for the Storm.

Both teams head into sectionals, both representing Section IV, Class C. Greene earned the 10th seed in sectionals and will face seventh-seeded Newfield on the road on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. UV is the 12th seed in the sectional tournament and heads to Groton at the same time.
