Oxford-Greene fights back late in loss to Groton on Homecoming

GREENE – The Oxford-Greene football team hosted Groton for homecoming weekend on Friday night at Greene’s George G. Raymond field. The Trohawks continue to show improvements, but in late opportunities as they fell 48-18.

Groton saw success on kickoff returns, recovering their own squib kicks to help drive the score offensively. Groton scored most of their points in the first half, taking a 42-0 lead at halftime.

Greene had its Homecoming parade, honoring all the fall sports teams and classes before crowning the homecoming King and Queen. Congratulations to Greene girls’ soccer player Kenzie Soto on winning Queen and Greene boys’ soccer player Seth Symons on earning King.

Coming out for the second half, Oxford-Greene saw improvement offensively while holding the Red Hawks to one scoring drive defensively. Senior Quarterback Jake Gallo got the Trohawks on the board to start the fourth quarter on a 42 yard touchdown pass to Micah LaFave.

On the next drive, Gallo handed the ball off to his running back David Dunckel, who punched it in for the score. Richard Hunter gave the offense good field possession on their final drive after a good punt return and a defensive penalty set Oxford-Greene near the red zone.

Gallo handed the ball off to Dallyn Camp for the 19-yard touchdown before Groton took a knee to end the game.

Gallo finished five-for-six for 133 yards and two touchdowns and rushed three carries for 24 yards to lead the team. Troy Braman had three carries as well for 20 yards as Dunckel went 6 for 13 yards with a touchdown.

LaFave finished with three catches for 86 yards and the big touchdown as and Keegan Waltz caught the ball once for 28 yards and Camp scored on his only reception.

Oxford-Greene heads to Tioga on Friday night at 7 p.m. before finishing the 2025 season at Trumansburg the following week.
