OXFORD — The Oxford Blackhawks boys’ soccer team had a solid 2025 season, which helped them earn a home sectionals game as the number eight seed in Section IV, Class B. The Blackhawks hosted the Watkins Glen Lake Hawks, a team that they had never faced before.

Both teams battled to a scoreless first half with good defensive play. Gordon Smith nearly came away with a couple of goals, but shots went wide. Watkins Glen also outshot Oxford 14-4 within the first 40 minutes of play.

Paxton LaMonica scored Oxford’s lone goal in the second half as Dawson Viele found him on a free kick.

The game was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, sending both teams into two 15 minute halves in sectional play. Opportunities were there but no finishes for neither team, forcing the game to be decided in a shootout.

The Blackhawks were perfect in PKs as Viele, LaMonica, Eddie Golden, Gordon Smith, and even Kayden Renfrow out of the net scored successfully. Renfrow’s first varsity goal ended up being the game-winner on the 5-4 advantage.

Renfrow also made 16 saves in goal in the win.

“All the guys played super hard and gutted it out,” Coach Corey Endress said. “I’m proud of them.”

Oxford advances to the next round of Sectionals, where they’ll face top seed Trumansburg on Friday afternoon.
