OXFORD — Coming off the MAC championship game, the Oxford Blackhawks girls’ soccer team earned the sixth seed in the Section IV, Class C tournament, where they hosted 11th seed Delhi. Both teams battled, but it was the Blackhawks who came out on top 1-0 with an early goal by Kayla Knapp.

Colette Kappauf had a great touch before passing the ball to Emily Williams, whose shot was a blocked by the goalie. However, Knapp rebounded the ball off the block to score and Williams was credited with the assist on the play.

Knapp, who is Oxford girls’ soccer all-time leading goal scorer, now has 50 goals in her high school career with more to go this season. Knapp is also a junior with a whole season left to play.

“This was a hard-fought win for us tonight,” Oxford’s Coach Rachel Seiler said. “The girls continue to play with heart and determination. We are proud of their effort and are excited to keep the momentum going as we move forward this season.”

Oxford will face off against an opponent they’ve seen most recently this season, Bainbridge-Guilford, who received a first-round bye as the third seed and won the MAC championship. Both teams will meet again on Saturday in Bainbridge at 3:30 p.m.
