Chenango County Democratic Committee announces endorsements for office
CHENANGO COUNTY - The Chenango County Democratic Committee would like to announce its endorsements for this year’s election.
Steve Page is running to retain his seat on the Town of Greene Council. He has served the Town of Greene as Council person for 16 years and Chair of the Council for some of those terms. In his capacity on the Council, he is in charge of summer youth programs for grades K-6, and youth sports programs. In addition Steve oversees the ball flats and its crew of 3 people.
In Otselic, Stacie Morse is running for the Town Council. Appointed to the position last year to fill a vacancy, this year she is running for a full term. The town is in the middle of a water project which should provide clean water for years to come, and she would like to see that through to completion.
Fred Gee is running in Norwich to retain his seat as Ward 2 Alderperson on the City Council. He spends time listening to constituents, gathering information to evaluate and make decisions to help revitalize the Norwich community. Additionally, that communication is key to prevent misinformation in public discourse.
Preston has 3 Democrats running for office this year. Eileen Gyles is running for Town Supervisor, while Cheryl Sheldon and Jane Swingle are candidates for Town Board seats. They are running to keep Preston in good shape financially by being fiscally prudent. They believe in Council transparency, and support the maintenance of the County Home. As Supervisor, Eileen would work with the Board to, among other things, provide public transportation within the county.
Be sure to turn your ballots over as there is a state-wide referendum which would add acreage to the Adirondack Park to provide more recreation area.
The Town of German and the City of Norwich also have referendums. In German, it proposes that the Superintendent of Highways be appointed, rather than elected. The City of Norwich referendum proposes term limits for mayor and alderpersons.
