SHERBURNE— After two S-E Timberwolves Youth Football teams left it all on the field Saturday in Sauquoit, one came home champions! The 10U Timberwolves earned the title of 2025 Tri-Valley League AFL Champions after a 26-6 win over the Northern Community Knights. The 12U Timberwolves fought hard until the end but ultimately came up short against the Rome Colts with a final score 27-19.
The 10U Timberwolves showed up as a pack this past weekend, finding the end zone four times with two extra points converted along the way. Henry Hicks (#5, 6th Grade) led the scoring with two touchdowns, giving the S-E crowd plenty to cheer about. Teammates Trevor Hess (#22, 6th Grade) and Tresean Johnson (#48, 5th Grade) each added a touchdown of their own, showcasing an incredible team effort from the young Timberwolves.
“I could not be prouder of our players. Every single player showed up ready to play,” Head Coach Zach Williams stated. “We could tell by the look in their eyes before the game they were locked in and were here to win the Championship. They worked together as a team, and no one took a play off. To come into a new league and win the AFL championship goes to show the dedication the board, coaches, parents and kids have to this program. This team deserved the championship and I’m extremely proud of everyone involved.”
While the 12U Timberwolves may not have brought home a championship title, they certainly didn’t go down without a fight. Austin Hess (#24, 7th Grade) found the end-zone immediately putting S-E on the board early in the game. Hess added another touchdown to the board later in the game, keeping the momentum and spirits high on the S-E sidelines. Christian Carhart (#80, 7th Grade) also joined in on the scoring, adding to the team’s strong offense. Despite multiple trips to the end zone and their strong pack mentality, the 12U Timberwolves came up just short with the Rome Colts taking the win.
Head Coach and League President Bob Carhart weighed in, “Our team fought hard til the very end Saturday night. Our team became more of a team in the last month, and it showed. Timberwolves football looks very promising in the years to come. Look out!!”
A celebratory parade took place Sunday night through the north end of Sherburne, complete with several fire trucks and emergency personnel. Coach Williams joyfully displayed the AFL Champion banner on his truck loaded with players as they made their way through town accompanied by the Nationals qualifying S-E JV Cheer team. It was a wonderful night to honor our athletes within our own community.
This milestone will conclude the season for S-E Youth Football while Cheer will continue until their Nationals performance in December. We look forward to kicking off a new season in fall 2026 with hopes of keeping the champion title!
