SHERBURNE— On the same weekend two Sherburne-Earlville youth football teams headed to championships, two S-E Youth cheer teams headed to the Eastern Region Cheer and Dance Championships with one securing a trip to Nationals! The JV Timberwolves cheerleaders had a strong top five performance giving them plenty to celebrate, even without placing first. The Tiny Mite cheerleaders also earned a spot at regionals, a big accomplishment for the team, but ultimately will not advance to nationals.
After taking first place at the Tri-Valley competition on October 4, the JV ladies made the trek to Trenton, NJ to compete at the Eastern Region Cheer and Dance Championships. The team competed in the Show Cheer 1 division among teams from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware and landed in the top five of 13 teams in their division. By achieving a score of 80 or above and scoring within five points of the first-place team, the young Timberwolves secured their spot in the 2025 Pop Warner National Cheer and Dance Championships in Charlotte, NC in December. They were also elated to receive a “Hit Zero” special award for no deductions for falls, mistakes, or penalties in the scoring of their routine.
Head Coach & Cheer Director Cindy Lott stated:
“I could not be prouder of this team and the dedication they’ve shown since day one. They’ve been working hard since mid-July – three practices a week, plus game days – constantly pushing themselves to improve and grow. Qualifying for Nationals is an incredible accomplishment for any team, but for a new competition team going up against programs with years of experience, it’s truly inspiring. I’m honored and excited to see them represent Sherburne, our league, and our region on the national stage. I am proud of all of the Sherburne cheer teams with how much they grew and learned this season and that the future of our program looks bright.”
While the Tiny Mite team may not have brought home a championship title, they stood up to their name, showing they may be tiny but they’re mighty! The tiny Timberwolves earned their spot at regionals after taking first place in their division and having no deductions at the Tri-Valley competition earlier in October. At the regional competition, they competed against 10 other teams in the Show Cheer 1- LTD medium division. This accomplishment is no small feat for this team of cheerleaders ranging in ages 5-8. Head coach Hailey Marris congratulated her team, stating “Greatness starts small – and our tiny mites are proof that determination and teamwork make the biggest impact.”
The S-E Youth Football & Cheer program is incredibly proud of our cheerleaders and all they’ve achieved in this first season in Pop Warner. We extend our best wishes to the JV team as they prepare to compete at the national level in December against teams from across the country. Go Timberwolves!
