Norwich girls’ swim competes at Class B championship; Sastri becomes a sectional champion

ENDWELL— Over the weekend, the Norwich Purple Tornado girls’ swim team traveled back to Maine-Endwell High School to compete in the Section IV, Class B championship finals. The team had competed earlier in the prelims, but were looking for more success, which is what they achieved, including one sectional champion and a seventh place finish as an overall team.
The girls had dropped 48 seconds of swim times in the prelims and then shaved off another 21 seconds in the finals, where there were a total of 24 best times throughout sectionals. The team saw senior Mikayla Sastri finish strong with becoming a sectional champion in the 500 freestyle with the fastest and a new personal best of 5:29.06. Alexandria Shtrauch took fifth in the 500 with her own new best time of 5:59.58.
Sastri, who was third in the prelims for the 200 free, notched off 2.30 seconds to take second in the finals with a new best 2:04.85 to finish with a successful sectionals journey.
Shtrauch achieved a new best time of 2:14.46 for eighth place in the 200 as well. Kaelyn Conant tied for 15th place in the 200 with a new personal best of 2:24.58.
Conant also set a new best in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:25.98 for 13th place.
Sophomore Jillian Petrie swam in both the 100 back and in the 50 free, where she earned two new personal bests. She swam a new 1:15.02 for 12th place in the backstroke and earned a new best time of 30.27 seconds for 14th place in the 50 free.
Shtrauch, Petrie, Conant, and Sastri swam as a team , where they took fifth in both the 200 and 400 free relays.
