NORWICH - The City of Norwich Police Department announced the arrest of a Norwich man this week for an alleged robbery that occurred in April.
City of Norwich Police Chief Scott Burlison said a months-long, violent crime investigation had determined that 51-year-old Defl A. King had assaulted and aimed a gun at a victim along East Main Street on April 6.
“On April 6, 2025, patrol officers responded to a disturbance on East Main Street, where the victim was allegedly violently assaulted by King,” reported Burlison. “The investigation determined that King attacked one victim, causing multiple bleeding injuries, forcibly stole the victim's cell phone, and then intentionally smashed the phone.”
According to police, King then allegedly retreated to his residence, retrieved a firearm, and pointed it at the victim.
Following an extensive investigation by the Criminal Investigation Division, on November 14 officers served King with an Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) at his residence. During the execution of the order, police seized multiple firearms and secured them for safekeeping as the case is handled in court.
King was charged with second and third degree robbery, third degree criminal mischief and fourth degree grand larceny, all felonies. He was also charged with second degree menacing and third degree assault, misdemeanors.
He appeared in Chenango County Central Arraignment Court where bail was set at $5,000 cash. He was subsequently remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility and will appear in City of Norwich Court at a later date.
