Butternut Valley Grange news update
GILBERTSVILLE - Members of Butternut Valley Grange, Gilbertsville, will convene for a holiday dinner on Monday, December 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the Grange Hall, 7 Bloom Street.. Each family is invited to bring a selection for the buffet. Table settings and beverages will be provided by the Grange. The meeting will be called to order by President, Lynne Porter, following the meal in the dining room with an informal business meeting to briefly address any items of necessity. The main portion of the evening will be a festive program arranged by Cathy Galley, Program Leader which will include a message from guest, Daniel Wesbster, who runs the cherished local farmer’s market in Morris. He will share highlights of his family locating to the area years ago and of his life after coming to the Butternut Valley. The Grange Singers will be providing some holiday music. A group of Grange members will be honored for milestone membership years in 2025 and will be honored and thanked for their support of the Grange.
At the November meeting, the Grange welcomed new members Dawn Lawyer, Reed Osborne and Aidan Woishnis. Also George Dempsie’s Associate Membership was announced and gratefully received. A check of $515 was presented to Cece Rowe, proceeds from the rent dinner held to benefit restoration projects at the Major’s Inn.
It was reported that the recent roadside clean-up of Rte 51, a 2.3 mile stretch, was accomplished by seventeen members.
The Grange will be wrapping up four days of attending the Salvation Army Kettle in Sidney on December 19.
Following the December 8 meeting, the Grange will be preparing for the annual Breakfast with Santa, on Saturday, December 13 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Grange Hall. The event is open to any families in the Town of Butternuts or GMU school district, also senior citizens are cordially invited. Reservations are to be made with Barbara Rossanda at 783-2075 by December 10 with the names and ages of children attending, up to age 12, so that Santa will have appropriate gifts for children.
