Norwich boys' swim opens season at Oneonta
ONEONTA — The Norwich Purple Tornado boys' swim team began the 2025-26 season at Oneonta High School on Wednesday night. The meet was close in scoring with Norwich falling just short 88-74.
Despite being shorthanded by a few swimmers, Norwich saw great swims from notable returners.
Leading senior Tim Guezewich, along with teammates Benjamin Collins, Sharon Thinagaran, and Alexandru Beiu, swam the fastest of 2:25.41 in the 200 medley relay.
Thinagaran, Sebastian Kenyon, Alex Moutarde, and Nate Shtrauch earned the top finish in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:52.12.
Guezewich, Kenyon, Moutarde, and Shtrauch swept the relay victories by finishing first in the 400 free with a time of 4:16.44.
Alex Moutarde earned two top swims in both the 200 and 500. In the 200 free, Moutarde finished with a new best time of 2:11.28 with teammate Sebastian Kenyon also earning a new best of 2:27.99 for fourth place.
Moutarde swam 6:37.23 to win the 500 free with Beiu in third (8:14.96).
Kenyon also swam in the 100 free, where he took second with a new personal best time of 1:05.63, just shy of the leader's 1:05.25. Collins took fifth with a time of 1:22.21.
Senior Nate Shtrauch took second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:31.65, shy of the leader's 2:17.52.
Shtrauch also finished second in the 100 fly with a time of 1:05.94.
Guezewich achieved a first place finish in the 50 free with a time of 25.51 seconds with Thinagaran in fourth place with a time of 35.33 seconds and Beiu behind him in fifth (35.91).
Guezewich also earned first in the 100 back with a time of 1:05.83 with Collins in fourth place (1:38.93).
Sharon Thinagaran took third in the 100 breast with a time of 1:38.51.
Norwich will host neighboring Sherburne-Earlville on Monday, December 8 at 5:30 p.m.
