Norwich boys’ swim hosts S-E in close matchup

NORWICH — On Monday, the Norwich Purple Tornado boys’ swim team hosted neighboring Sherburne-Earlville for a swim meet at Norwich High School. Both local teams showcased their talented swimmers in a close matchup with Norwich taking the 76-71 non-league win.
Norwich’s Timothy Guezewich, Amon Oliver, Nate Shtrauch, and Alex Moutarde earned the victory in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:58.17. Moutarde, Oliver, Guezewich, and Sebastian Kenyon came in first place in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:49.61.
S-E had two relay teams compete with Amelia Casscles, Clayton Lawton, Amelia Furlong, and Hailey Deluca in second place with a time of 2:15.83 and Bethany Garrison, Jaecie Morak, Lindsay Hatch, and Madelyn Chouinard in third (2:54.06).
S-E finished first and third in the 400 free relay with Norwich in second. S-E’s Ava Flanagan, Robert Schaefer, Isaac Larchar, and Parker McCracken finished in the fastest time of 4:37.25.
Norwich’s Kenyon, Alexandru Beiu, Sharon Thinagaran, and Nate Shtrauch took second with a time of 4:50.09 with S-E’s Furlong, Casscles, Chouinard, and Lawton in third (5:17.85).
Norwich sophomore Sebastian Kenyon earned a new personal best time of 2:27.58 for the top finish in the 200 free with Sharon Thinagaran in fifth with a time of 2:59.93 and Benjamin Collins in sixth (3:05.93).
S-E’s Lindsay Hatch took second in the event with a time of 2:35.33 with Madelyn Chouinard in third (2:44.68) and Amelia Casscles in fourth (2:50.16).
Amelia Furlong led the Timberwolves with a top finish in the 200 individual medley with a time of 3:18.04.
Nate Shtrauch, Alex Moutarde, and Timothy Guezewich all swam in the 50 free for the Purple Tornado, where they took the top three positions. Shtrauch earned the first place victory with a time of 24.97 seconds with Moutarde in second with a new personal best of 25.22 seconds. Guezewich came in third with a season-best time of 25.42 seconds.
S-E’s Clayton Lawton, Hailey Deluca, and Jaecie Morak all competed in the event as well, where they each earned a new personal best time. Lawton came in fourth place with a new best time of 33.28 seconds as Deluca took fifth with a new best of 34.74 seconds, and Morak in sixth with a new best 42.12 seconds.
Shtrauch also won the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:08.54 with Alexandru Beiu in fifth place with a time of 1:43.72. S-E’s Schaefer took second with a time of 1:17.45 with Ava Flanagan in third (1:19.69) and Amelia Furlong in fourth (1:33.64).
Moutarde swam the fastest time of 1:13.51 to take the victory for Norwich in the 100 butterfly with S-E’s Ava Flanagan in second (1:15.62) and her teammate Robert Schaefer in third (1:22.63).
Norwich’s Guezewich picked up a season-best time of 58.90 seconds in the 100 free for first place as teammate Kenyon took third with a new personal best time of 1:04.26 and Alexandru Beiu in fifth with his new best 1:17.05.
S-E’s Parker McCracken took second place in the event with a time of 59.34 seconds as Isaac Larchar earned a new personal best time of 1:15 in fourth place. Deluca finished sixth with a time of 1:25.76.
McCracken earned the victory in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:17.69 as Larchar came in third with a time of 1:47.36 and Casscles picked up a season-best 1:56 for fourth place. Norwich’s Sharon Thinagaran also had a season-best time of 1:33.82 in second place.
Norwich junior Amon Oliver earned the top finish in the 500 free with a time of 5:51.59 as Benjamin Collins took third with a time of 8:53.31. S-E’s Madelyn Chouinard picked up a new personal best time of 7:47.68 in second place.
