Oxford girls' fall short to Edmeston/Morris in Martin tournament

MORRIS -- The Oxford Blackhawks girls' basketball team faced Edmeston/Morris in the opening round of the Joan Martin Holiday Classic tournament at Morris High School.

The Blackhawks came up short 36-31 on Thursday night.

Oxford had a strong first quarter, leading 15-8. But, the Blackhawks were limited throughout the rest of the contest, even though it was still a close game to the end.

Jenna Denz led the Blackhawks with eight points, going four-for-six at the free-throw line.

Margaret Rovente and Aubrey Rickard both finished with five points. Rickard also had 13 rebounds.

Emmalee Reiss and Raine Rovente both added four points as Jordan Palmer hit a three and Reese Tefft had two points.

Oxford (1-2) will face the loser of the game between South Kortright/Morrisville-Eaton on Saturday at 1 p.m.
