NHS boys’ swim hosts Owego FA
NORWICH — The Norwich Purple Tornado boys’ swim team hosted Owego Free Academy on Tuesday night. Norwich swimmers continue to progress and drop times, making great improvements.
Norwich won two team relays with taking the victories in the 200 yard freestyle and 400 yard freestyle relays.
A team of Alex Moutarde, Sebastian Kenyon, Amon Oliver, and Nate Shtrauch won the 200 and 400 with Benjamin Collins, Sharon Thinagaran, Shalom Thinagaran, and Alexandru Beiu as the second relay team in both events, placing fourth in the 200 and second in the 400.
Amon Oliver led Norwich individually as he picked up a first place finish in the 200 yard freestyle with a new personal best time of 2:02.88 with teammate Beiu in third (2:43.08).
Oliver also swam in the 500 yard freestyle, where he took second with a time of 5:33.58, behind leader’s 5:32.86. Kenyon took third with a time of 7:16.85 with Beiu in fourth with a new best time of 7:34.98.
Alex Moutarde also had two top finishes in his prominent individual events, including the 50 and 100 yard freestyles. Moutarde earned a new personal best with a time of 24.42 seconds in the 50 freestyle with Kenyon in third with his new best of 27.54 seconds and Shalom Thinagaran in fourth (29.56 seconds).
Moutarde won the 100 freestyle with another new best of 55.53 seconds with Shalom Thinagaran in fourth with a time of 1:11.71, and Benjamin Collins in fifth with a new best time of 1:17.61.
Nate Shtrauch took second in both the 200 yard Individual Medley and in the 100 yard butterfly. He swam the 200 yard IM in 2:27.86, behind the leader’s 2:16.80, and swam the butterfly in 1:06.12, behind the top 59.60 seconds.
Collins came in third place in the backstroke with a new best time of 1:35.50 as Sharon Thinagaran took third in the breaststroke with a time of 1:29.65.
Norwich hosts Chenango Forks on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
