B-G girls extend unbeaten streak to eight in win over Greene

BAINBRIDGE — The Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats girls’ basketball team extended its unbeaten streak to eight games after they picked up a 50-29 victory over MAC league opponent Greene. Both teams were off to a competitive start before the Bobcats showed improvement in the second half.

Greene’s Mia Yahner and Hailey Butler excelled in the first quarter, combining for the 13 team points. Greene had a brief lead over B-G 13-7 at the end of the first eight minutes.

However, B-G took over to have a one-point 21-20 advantage at the break.

The Bobcats improved greatly in the second half, which is the strength that continues to keep them going and keep their unbeaten streak alive.

B-G held Greene to just two points in the third quarter, which were free-throws and got things fully going offensively to build a steady lead. Greene did not recover as they were held to seven points in the final eight minutes and struggled at the free-throw line, only making four of 22 attempts.

Both Marissa Mayo and Emma Kinter posted a double-double on the night. Mayo and Jalyn Winans both finished with a team-high 14 points as Mayo added 13 rebounds to her stats sheet. Kinter had 10 points and 12 rebounds. Mayo, Winans, and Kinter also all had two three-pointers.

Peyton Umbra and Kamry Patten both finished with four points as Tori Suda had three. Jayslin Henderson made one free-throw, but had a team-high four assists and four steals in the win.

Mia Yahner hit two three’s and finished with 12 points for the Trojans. Hailey Butler added nine points as Deidre Colgan hit a three in the second quarter. Mya Leggett-Carlin also had three points and Ahraya Whitt had a basket in the final quarter.

B-G (8-0) hosts Oxford on Friday at 7:15 p.m. as Greene (1-6) heads to Windsor on Friday at the same time.
