Oxford girls move past UV
OXFORD— In Tuesday evening's rescheduled matchup, the Oxford Blackhawks girls' basketball team hosted the Unadilla Valley Storm in a non-league contest. Oxford, coming off a hard loss to B-G, quickly regrouped to defeat the Storm 50-24 to improve to 6-4 on the season.
Both teams were off to a slow start with not many scoring in the first eight minutes with Oxford leading nine to four.
The Lady Blackhawks picked up the pace offensively with a team-best 19 points scored in the second quarter with most of the leading scorers adding a majority of their points before halftime.
The Oxford defense also held UV to single digit scoring throughout the game with the Storm trying to pick up the pace in the second half.
It was mostly a full team effort for the Lady Blackhawks as many players contributed to the victory.
Paige Rickard led Oxford with 11 points, including eight of those 11 being scored in the second quarter. She also had five rebounds and three assists.
Reesanne Tefft was impressive off the bench as she added 10 points, staying consistent throughout the contest.
Jenna Denz also was solid off the bench with nine points, including seven of the nine in the third quarter.
Arielle Ross and Raine Rovente both finished with five points. Raine also had eight rebounds.
Jordan Palmer netted four points as Emmalee Reiss had three and Olivia Oliver with a single free-throw.
Aubrey Rickard had eight rebounds in the win for Oxford.
Myriah Taylor led the Storm with eight points in the second half, including two three-pointers.
Shyla Roberts and Kora Johnson both finished with six points as Allisyn Daniell and Taylor Hitt both added two points each in the loss.
Oxford (6-4) heads to Sidney on Friday at 7:15 p.m. while UV (2-7) heads to B-G at the same time.
