NORWICH — It's that time of year when Chenango County Soil and Water hold their annual tree and shrub sale, offering a wide variety of plants at low cost, now through March, with pick up in April at the Chenango County Fairgrounds.
“The tree and shrub sale has been an annual event for many years,” said Chenango County Soil and Water Conservation Secretary Treasurer Katy Kemmeren.
“We purchase the trees from a large nursery in Western New York,” Kemmeren said. “This is also helpful as the stock was grown in the same climate.”
Kemmeren said orders can be placed by email, phone or at www.chenangoswcd.org. Emails can be sent to chenangocountysoilandwater@gmail.com or call 607-371-7125. Orders are due by March 27, before 4 p.m.
April pick up hours are from 12 to 5 p.m., Friday, April 24 and from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, April 25, at the Chenango County Fairgrounds, located at 168 East Main Street in Norwich.
“Our trees are bare root, meaning they are not potted,” Kemmeren added. “Bare-root trees and shrubs are easier to plant, less expensive, and, since the plants are dormant, they experience less transplant shock when moved to their new location.”
