OXFORD—The Oxford Blackhawks and the Afton Crimson Knights girls' basketball teams squared off in Oxford on Wednesday night in a MAC league contest.

Oxford improves to 8-5 on the season after a 63-41 win.

There were several lead changes and ties in the first quarter before Oxford went on a 10-0 run after being tied at five apiece.

Both teams were too quick and then were at a stand still with several travel violations called on both teams, setting the tone for the opposing offense.

Also, both teams played aggressive defense, but Oxford was able to find a rhythm between its starters and bench players subbing at the right times.

Paige Rickard, Margaret Rovente, Raine Rovente, Jenna Denz, and Jordan Palmer, who earned the start, amped up with quick speed, intensity, and drive offensively whether it be long passes to Paige for the score or even steals or three's from Palmer, things just continue to click for the Lady Blackhawks.

Both Paige and Aubrey Rickard were also on Afton's leading player Rylee Rupakus to limit her power, but Oxford's defense had a rough time guarding a tall McKenna Ross, who went to the free-throw line several times, and went eight-for-13.

She also fought for a lot of jump balls and rebounds.

Ross' teammate Appalonia Bushaw was quick and intense as well, even leading the Crimson Knights with some blocked shots, while getting opportunity for layups and even a few three's.
