CHENANGO COUNTY - All roadways in Chenango County remained open Monday morning, according to the Chenango County Emergency Management Office.

State, county and local highway departments are out working to make roads safe for travel as cleanup continues from yesterday’s storm. Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution, as drivers may encounter snowplows and other removal vehicles along roadways.

Emergency Management also reminded residents to clear appliance vents and air intakes of snow, warning that dangerous carbon monoxide can build up when vents are blocked. Officials recommend testing home carbon monoxide detectors to ensure they are working.

Governor Kathy Hochul declared a State of Emergency in affected regions to make funding and resources readily available if needed. Officials emphasized that the declaration does not close roads and is an administrative action.

If road closures are ordered, officials said a county-level declaration would come from the Chairman of the Board for Chenango County, and a City of Norwich declaration would be issued by the mayor. At this time, officials said there is no State of Emergency related to roadway closures within Chenango County.

Residents are advised to monitor official municipal social media channels for any official declarations for Chenango County and or the City of Norwich.
