Norwich boys swim defeats both Chenango Valley and Waverly in a double-dual meet
BINGHAMTON—The Norwich Purple Tornado boys' swim team traveled to Chenango Valley High School to take on both Waverly and the hosting Warriors in a double-dual meet on Wednesday.
Norwich came out victorious in both meets. The Purple Tornado defeated Waverly 101-18 and Chenango Valley 83-76, even with a modified line-up.
Norwich also had 11 personal best times.
Tim Guzewich, Sebastian Kenyon, Amon Oliver, and Alex Moutarde achieved a victory as the Norwich (A) relay in the 200 free with a time of 1:42.19 as Benjamin Collins, Sharon Thinagaran, Alexandru Beiu, and Shalom Thinagaran took third as the (B) team with a time of 2:07.20.
Benjamin Collins, Sharon Thinagaran, Nate Shtrauch, and Sebastian Kenyon all swam in the 200 medley relay, where they took second with a time of 2:08.54 with Chenango Valley in first and third.
Moutarde, Guzewich, Oliver, and Shtrauch led the 400 free relay to a top finish with the fastest time of 3:52.99 as Shalom Thinagaran, Collins, Sharon Thinagaran, and Beiu took third with a time of 5:09.93.
Alex Moutarde earned a new personal best and the victory in the 200 free with a time of 2:06.65 as Shalom Thinagaran came in fourth with a time of 2:38.09.
Moutarde took second in the 100 butterfly, setting a new best of 1:08.81, behind Chenango Valley's 1:08.51.
Tim Guzewich achieved a new best time of 2:25.67 in the 200 individual medley, where the senior earned the top finish.
Alexandru Beiu came in third in the 200 IM with a time of 3:32.18.
Nate Shtrauch won the 500 free with a new personal best time of 5:41.70 as Shalom Thinagaran earned a new best of 7:41.59 for third place.
Shtrauch also swam in the 100 backstroke, where he came in second with a time of 1:08.32, behind Chenango Valley's leading 1:03.18.
Benjamin Collins finished fourth in the same event with a time of 1:25.99.
Sebastian Kenyon finished second in the 50 free with a new personal best time of 25.50 seconds, behind Waverly's 24.47.
Amon Oliver followed in third with a new best 25.53 seconds.
Oliver also took third in the 100 free, setting another new best with a time of 55.96 seconds with Guzewich in fourth with a season-best 58.34 seconds.
Sharon Thinagaran and Sebastian Kenyon both swam in the 100 breaststroke, where Thinagaran took third with a time of 1:25.79 as Kenyon followed in fourth with a time of 1:32.19.
Norwich concludes the regular season meet schedule at home against Waverly for senior night on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
