UV boys honor seniors vs D-H

NEW BERLIN— The Unadilla Valley Storm boys’ basketball team hosted Deposit-Hancock on Thursday for senior night. Prior to the contest, the Storm honored its eight seniors. Congratulations to Denzel Peter, Steven Johnson, Tristan Collins, Seth Meagley, Braden Golliver, Brodey Cattanach, Kaleb Smith, and Preston York.

UV kept things close against their MAC league opponent in the first half, but fell 62-49. The Eagles built up a big lead in the fourth quarter, where they once led by 15 points.

UV saw right away and throughout the contest of the height of two of Deposit-Hancock’s leading scorers, who were difficult to guard and tough to contain.

Meanwhile, UV’s Denzel Peter found success driving inside the paint, where he had the team’s first seven points that helped tie the game. It was a back-and-forth close high-intense game in the first half with a few ties before Deposit-Hancock went on small runs.

UV’s Declan Potter hit a three in the final seconds of the second quarter, which put the Storm down by two, 29-27 at halftime. However, the Eagles increased the pressure and found success with rebounding and layups on most drives offensively, which led to gaining a solid lead.

UV saw good defense by Braden Golliver, Taylor Hodge, and a few others on the tall Micah Simmons and Jacoby Mapes before both Deposit-Hancock players worked their way around the Storm defense.

Denzel Peter led the Storm with 24 points, where he excelled with nine points in the fourth quarter.

Preston York followed with 10 points as Hodge added four points with a three in the second quarter.

Potter had his three in the second quarter as well while Zack Welch also had three points with a free-throw and a basket.

Steven Johnson and Seth Meagley both finished with two points. Brodey Cattanach added a single free-throw in the fourth quarter.

UV (0-14) heads to Edmeston on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
