OXFORD — It all started with a thought to bring affordable priced housing to the Oxford area. Now, after two years of diligent planning, a house rehab and many endless hours of detailed labor, Promote Oxford Now (PON) is proud to announce their first renovated house sale.

PON is a non-profit organization working to bring affordable homes to the Oxford area.

The house, located at 54 North Washington Avenue in Oxford, was renovated under the ownership, guidance and hands-on efforts from PON President Sarah Smith and Vice President Jessica Henninge with support from many local organizations, businesses and volunteers.

There were obstacles along the way but after a year of starting and stopping projects, the house was finished and placed on the market. It sold within a few months.

“We can't thank United Country Palmer Real Estate enough for all of their help and diligence to get this sale completed,” said Smith.

Smith said the new homeowners are very excited to raise their family in this special home and welcomed them to Oxford.

“Congratulations to the new homeowner and welcome to the community,” Smith said.

“Jessica and I are ready to start our next project, Smith added. “We're searching for the next house and taking house donations.”

“There is a need to provide housing for people that want to move here,” said Smith. “Our goal is to get more community members here and hopefully more families or people in the school district.”

“I believe people want to move here, but there aren't enough moderately priced homes to choose from,” she added.

Henninge said they have an unofficial team of experts actively searching properties that could align with our mission and their budget.

“We also look to assist homeowners with renovations, assisting in elderly and disability modification projects,” she added. “We’re eager to bring homes back to living condition.”

They hope to encourage other businesses and organizations to do the same with foreclosed homes and saving properties to provide reasonably priced housing for our community.
