Oxford’s Paige Rickard hits the game-winner as the Blackhawks defeat Marathon
MARATHON— The Oxford Blackhawks girls’ basketball team traveled to take on non-league opponent Marathon on Wednesday in the final regular season game. Both teams battle with the game coming down to the wire in the final seconds.
Oxford, down by small margins throughout the contest, had its best efforts in the final eight minutes, surging with 17 team points. Efforts were made by Paige Rickard, Jordan Palmer, Raine Rovente, Jenna Denz on offense with a strong defense as well to set up the game-winning shot.
Paige Rickard scored the game-winner with 1.1 seconds left in regulation after a great screen by Jenna Denz. Oxford won 35-33.

Paige Rickard led Oxford with 16 points, including the game-winning shot, where she knocked in two three-pointers and had nine points in the final eight minutes.
Olivia Oliver added seven points all in the first half as Raine Rovente had four points.
Jordan Palmer hit a three in the fourth quarter in the late comeback while Jenna Denz had a bucket and a free-throw for her three points. ReesAnne Tefft had a basket in the second quarter.
Aubrey Rickard led Oxford with nine rebounds while Margaret Rovente added seven rebounds and three assists and Raine Rovente with five blocks in the win.
Oxford (11-7) hosts Greene this evening at 7:15 p.m. for the first round of the MAC playoffs.
