Oxford girls pull off second half comeback vs Unatego

OTEGO— The Oxford Blackhawks girls’ basketball team traveled to take on Unatego in the second round of the MAC playoffs. Oxford, who was once down 24-20 at halftime, surged in the final eight minutes to come away with the 45-43 victory.

Oxford, who was down for most of the contest, shut Unatego out with 4:29 left in the game. Paige Rickard made it 42-43 with a nice left handed drive with 3:24 left.

Raine Rovente put the Blackhawks ahead with a nice hook shot with 1:57 left to take the lead for good.

Margaret Rovente had a huge steal with 5.3 seconds left, which set up Jenna Denz at the free-throw line, where she hit the last foul shot.

Unatego tried to tie it up in the final moments but the shot went after the buzzer.

Raine Rovente led Oxford with 13 points with at least a basket in every quarter, staying consistent all game.

Paige Rickard added 10 points with two three’s as Margaret Rovente finished with eight points.

Jenna Denz had seven points as Emmalee Reiss was huge off the bench as she helped drive Oxford to its close victory. Reiss had six points, all in the second half with five in the fourth quarter.

Aubrey Rickard added one free-throw in the win.

Oxford now awaits their sectional opponent.
