Oxford boys fall to Marathon in first round of Class C sectionals

MARATHON— The Oxford Blackhawks earned the ninth seed in the Section IV, Class C tournament, where they traveled to take on eighth-seeded Marathon on Wednesday night. Both teams faced each other in the regular season, where Marathon took the 58-38 win.
In Wednesday’s matchup, the Olympians came away with the 65-43 win, securing the victory, especially in the fourth quarter.
Marathon also stayed up tempo the whole contest. Oxford tried to keep up but was outscored 19-4 in the final eight minutes.
Richard Hunter led the Blackhawks with 15 points, going off with nine of the team’s 11 points in the second quarter to finish his high-school basketball career.
Fellow senior Kayden Renfrow added 10 points with two three’s and had eight of the team’s 12 points in the first eight minutes of the contest.
Justin Peck netted in eight points while Nic Dodzweit finished his final basketball game with four points in the third quarter.
Seniors Dom Howe and Aiden Mellem both had two points while Gordon Smith, the team’s leading all-star also chipped in a basket in the third quarter.
Oxford finishes the 2025-26 season with an 11-10 record.
