GREENE— Friday night was packed with lots of screaming and cheering fans as the Greene faculty and staff hosted Bainbridge-Guilford for its annual basketball game fundraiser. Greene had originally faced Whitney Point since the start, but B-G got a team together this year for the local competition.

“Greene invited us this year and it’s a fun event for charity,” organizer Emily Hall said.

Funds from ticket sales, concessions, and half court shot at halftime went in support of the local food bank.

B-G’s Israel Lormier loved the atmosphere of the event, even compliments from the students at school.

“It’s an awesome event and a great fundraiser,” he said. “Emily Hall did a great job organizing. We wore our shirts to school and kids asked us “are you going to drop points,” and I am just lucky to not drop on the floor.”

Lormier anticipates the event being at B-G next year to keep the fun going.

It was also B-G’s Devin Schmitz’s birthday, where everyone sang Happy Birthday prior to the game.

Greene basketball coach and participant, Caleb Link gave some great pre-game advice prior to the start of the game that he also gives to his players.

“Good better best, never let it rest until your good is better and your better is best,” Link said.

The contest started with some mascot action before tip-off, where in between quarters were student games between both Greene and B-G students, where B-G students came away with the victories.

B-G also won the staff event and took home the trophy with a 55-43 win as well as raising over $1000 for the backpack program. There was also over $2000 raised altogether.
