Norwich softball makes late comeback, but falls short in season opener at Windsor
WINDSOR—With two outs in the top of the seventh, Norwich's Ava Cirigliano tripled, driving in two runs, and came around in attempt to score the game-tying run, but the game ended with a play at the plate. The Norwich Purple Tornado softball team fell short 4-3 against Windsor on the road to start the 2026 season.
Norwich, once down 4-0, made its attempt at a comeback in the latter innings, but came up just short.
The Purple Tornado outhit the Black Knights 8-4, but could only get a total of three runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Bri Cirigliano led Norwich with two hits as Ava Cirigliano had a two-run triple, Carolyn Wright, Kerragan Reid, Shaelyn Rice, Loralee Brown, and Abigail Telesky each had hits as well.
Bri Cirigliano also led the team with three stolen bases.
Kira Quattrocchi went all six innings for the Purple Tornado on the mound, allowing three earned runs (four runs) on four hits, six walks, and struck out six batters.
Norwich (0-1) hosts Sus Valley on Thursday at 5 p.m.
