B-G baseball opens 2026 season with victory at Schenevus
SCHENEVUS—The Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats baseball team, under Coach Schmitz and company this season, opened the 2026 season on a high note with a 5-1 road win against Schenevus. The Bobcats bring back many key returners to its lineup and rotation.
The star of the show for the Bobcats in Tuesday's season opener was the pitching staff as well as Anthony Cafasso's four-RBI day at the plate.
Both teams scored all the game's runs in the first few innings.
B-G's first three hitters contributed well as Parker Buttice, the team's lead-off batter, started off the game with a double before Connor Davy added a double to follow. Cafasso hit a sac fly to drive Buttice home before an error brought Davy home to give B-G an early 2-0 lead.
Schenevus got one in the bottom half of the first inning on a wild pitch, which was the only time they crossed home plate in the contest.
Cafasso helped the Bobcats add on in the top of the second inning, where he cleared the bases with a two out, three-RBI double to finish with four RBIs on the day.
B-G scored five runs on the three hits while the rest of the magic was defensively.
Mason Acquisto earned the start on the mound, where he allowed just the unearned run, one walk, and struck out six batters through two innings pitched.
Anthony Cafasso also worked a good outing on the mound, where he went two and a third, allowing one walk and struck out seven batters.
Aidan Haynes finished off two and a two thirds, allowing just one hit, a walk, and had five strikeouts, totaling 18 overall for B-G pitching in the win.
B-G (1-0) heads to Harpursville on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
