B-G baseball improves to 2-0 with win over Harpursville/Afton
HARPURSVILLE— On Friday afternoon, the Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats baseball team traveled to take on Harpursville/Afton in a non-league matchup. B-G, who won its first game on Tuesday, got the bats going this time with a 14-1 victory.
The Bobcats started off with a run in the first as Parker Buttice doubled to start the game before coming in to score on Anthony Cafasso’s groundout RBI.
B-G extended its lead in the second and fourth innings to take a 6-0 lead from a Connor Davy RBI triple in the second, Davy’s inside-the-park home run in the fourth as well as Mason Acquisto’s RBI single before Aidan Haynes drove in a run on a groundout.
The Bobcats surged in the top of the fifth inning with eight runs. B-G scored a run on a wild pitch, a run from Cafasso’s RBI double, a bases-loaded hit by pitch, two bases-loaded walks, and on an error.
Harpursville/Afton scored its lone run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Davin Warren.
B-G scored 14 runs on 10 hits including three hits from Connor Davy, two hits from Parker Buttice and Anthony Cafasso. Brayden Swartwout, Mason Acquisto, and Davis Barnard each had a hit in the win.
Cafasso led the team with three RBIs as Davy and Aidan Haynes had two RBIs, and Isaiah Hampton, Mason Acquisto, and Troy Cannistra each had one RBI.
Harpursville/Afton had three hits on the day with Warren’s RBI single, Liem Donahue and Matthew Karpel with singles.
Brayden Swartwout got the start on the mound for the Bobcats, where he earned the win, going four innings allowing just one hit, a walk, and struck out five batters.
Parker Buttice came in to relieve Swartwout in the fifth, where he allowed one earned run on two hits, two walks, and had three strikeouts.
Harpursville/Afton had Davin Warren, Liem Donahue, Paul Shelton, and Trenton Franklin all on the mound. The four combined with allowing a total of 10 hits, 14 runs (12 earned), 11 walks, and had nine strikeouts.
B-G (2-0) hosts UV/GMU on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. while Harpursville/Afton (0-1) heads to Windsor this afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
