The pedestrian, a 65-year-old person, was stabilized at the scene and then transported by the Norwich Fire Department to Wilson General Hospital in Binghamton, said Burlison. The victim's condition was reported as critical Wednesday morning.

Burlison said, “Drivers should realize when there is inclement weather and pedestrians in the area you should drive at a safe speed, keep an open eye, and know your surroundings.”

The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit responded is assisting with the investigation. The investigation remains active and no arrests had been made as of Wednesday morning.

The chief said there was a great deal of non-factual information circulating on social media about the incident and asked the public to refrain from speculation. “Just be aware, fact check things before you believe them on social media,” he said.
