Norwich softball falls short to JC
JOHNSON CITY — The Norwich Purple Tornado softball team traveled to take on Johnson City in a non-league matchup. Norwich battled late but fell short 9-7.
Johnson City scored all its runs in the first three innings, including a six-run third inning.
Norwich got on the board in the top of the third with two runs as Bri Cirigliano and sister Ava Cirigliano had back-to-back singles to start.
Both girls advanced on a groundout by Kerragan Reid before Bri scored on an RBI single by Carolyn Wright.
Loralee Brown hit a sacrifice bunt to bring in Ava.
After a scoreless fourth inning, Norwich scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Nolah Montgomery singled to start the inning, Ava reached on an error, and Kerragan Reid walked to load the bases with one out.
Nolah scored on an error and Loralee Brown tripled to bring in both Ava and Reid before scoring on a wild pitch.
The Purple Tornado scored one final time in the top of the seventh as Bri doubled to lead off the inning and scored on Reid’s RBI single.
Norwich outhit the Wildcats 9-8 with Loralee Brown and Bri Cirigliano both having two hits. Brown led the team with three RBIs.
Ava Cirigliano, Kerragan Reid, Carolyn Wright, Kira Quattrocchi, and Nolah Montgomery each had a hit in the loss.
Quattrocchi went four innings on the mound, allowing nine runs (one earned) on seven hits, six walks, and five strikeouts.
Bri Cirigliano pitched the final two innings in relief, where she allowed one hit, three walks, and one strikeout.
Norwich (0-3-1) hosts Waverly on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
